Where will this be built?
We are looking at the west side of the school building. The feeling was this would be the best cost effective location, allow for a better secure entrance for student and staff safety, as well as a closer proximity for parking. -
Why isn't building south an option?
This option was strongly considered, but there were more negatives with this option. Trying to figure out how to tie it into the existing building would be difficult. The current south side of the HS building has windows and there was a concern that we would take away the light with the new building. Also, it would create a tunnel between the two buildings that would be an issue in the winter. Space was a factor as well. We would need to try and get the city to allow us to have part of the street to build on, which would be changing water and sewer lines. Another problem was the greenhouse. It would need to be moved as the building would block the sun for part of the day. The estimated cost was higher going south and we wanted to keep that number as low as possible for our taxpayers. Another issue is parking and traffic flow. South has very limited parking as most of it would be on the street. The west side provides better traffic flow. With deliveries, students getting picked up and dropped off, and additional parking in general, the west side makes more sense.

Do we have enough space right now?
Yes, it is tight at times, but we have enough space. If the office addition passes we will be able to move our HS special education department and our HS EL department to the old office area. This would be a great transition for those teachers and students. They would have small rooms for group or individual work as well as rooms for a quiet testing environment. Then that frees up another classroom that would give us some other options with classrooms.
-
Are there plans for expansion in the event of enrollment growth?
Yes, we have discussed that going south would give us a very good option that could fit for both middle and high school students, as well as elementary if needed.
-
Can you add more parking to the west side of the new addition?
We can look at that once we determine how many parking spaces we will gain on the north side.
-
Will the Den be kept or taken down?
The Den will be taken down, as well as the two preschool rooms. We will build two new preschool rooms that will be better suited for their growth and development.
-
Why will the Den be torn down, as it is part of the history of our school?
While we understand there are sentimental feelings towards the old building, it is not economically feasible to continue repairing and updating this structure. This will also allow us to update our preschool classrooms, which is a strong need.
-
Where will the new bus/car garage be located?
That decision has not been made yet. Since the school does not own any buses, we can be more economical and creative with this new garage.
-
How will parents access the green house, especially during plant sales?
We are still looking into that at this time.
-
Where will the football teams practice?
The properties on the south side are owned by the school. We could turn that into greenspace which might be used for football practice. There could be enough room south of the new building for JH to practice. Another option would be to have the teams practice by the current football field or south of the baseball field. This is still an area we are looking into.

Why aren't you asking for the HVAC bond amount?
There was a feeling of support for the HVAC upgrades, but not a strong financial support. The survey results showed that people would not vote for that part of the project. We went with the base project, preschool, gym, locker rooms, weight room, and bathrooms as well as the office project. There was strong support for both of those projects, both in recognizing the need and supporting it financially.
